Koh Lao Liang is part of Mu Ko Phetra Marine National Park is a breeding ground of bird nests Swiftlets. Koh Lao Liang was guarded with firearms and visiting the island was impossible until only recently when it is opened for tourism(around 2003). Only bird-nest soup concessionaires are eligible as permanent inhabitants.
