Resorts on Railay and Ton Sai Beach

Where to sleep on Railay Beach?

Rai Leh is for two types of groups - honeymooners/families OR rock climbers/backpackers - and sometime a combo of all 4 groups.

Expensive four star resorts or two star guesthouses. Prices typically double/triple during high season (November-April)

--
Railey Beach is very lovely. No question. And because it is so small can not turn into Koh Samui or even Phi Phi which are over crowded and over built.

But Railay is a popular destination. And often fully booked during high season.

Also Railay West only has 3 resorts. All their rooms are priced between 3,000-15,000THB per night.

Railay East is much more favorable for those on a budget. With the hillside resorts having the best quality to price value. Also the cheaper rooms of Railay West are built in the far back of the lots, which means the rooms are in Railay East.

Confused? Don't worry most first time travelers are under the impression that there is a great distance between Railay East and West. In reality it is a distance of less than 200m ... a short walk.

In fact everyplace on railay is within walking distance, there are no motor vehicles.

Railay West Accomodations

Rai Leh West has just 4 beach front hotels/resort operators located on the west side of Rai Leh. While the prices vary greatly depending on room type, they're all priced a cut above your average budget of backpackers. Currently 3/4 operations on Railay West are under various stages of remodeling ... construction will occur well into the 2007 high season.

Railay Beach Club -- these are all time share bungalows. Rai Lei Beach Club rents private bungalows. None have air conditioning or hot water but include daily maid service. Railay Beach Club is located on the far western side of Railay Beach along the cliff walls and adjacent to CoCo's Bar.
High season rates begin at 3500 baht range up to 13,000 baht for a three bedroom home that sleeps 12 pax.

Railay Village Resort (renovated August 2007) Pool Villas are towards the back of the resort. Feature a lush garden setting, around the pool. The rooms are in larger two story buildings, each Pool Villa has four rooms. Features private balcony overlooking a beautifully landscaped garden and swimming pool. Spa Villas are large stand alone bungalows in a garden setting.

Railay Sand Sea Hotel is similar to Railay Village Hotel in that it is a collection of concrete bunglows, private bathroom, choice of fan or air con and quietly set back off the beach among a garden setting. Includes a breakfast buffet. The rooms have okay interior decor. Sand Sea Hotel has a nice swimming pool very near railay West Beach.
High season rates run 2000-6500 baht for double occupancy.

Rai Lay Bay Resort is the largest and offers a combination of concrete bungalows and two-storey deluxe hotel rooms. The rooms of Railay Bay Resort are slightly closer to the beach than the others. There bungalows almost stretch right across the peninsula through their gardens to East Railay. Rai Lay Bay Resort has a nice swimming pool. Price including a very good buffet breakfast.
High season rates 2000-6000 baht.

Ao Railay East Accomodations

Ao Rai Leh East has no sandy beach. The Railay east beach front bungalows face a mucky bay and have no sand. But these resorts offer fine views of the bay and surrounding mountains. Railay West beaches are just a short walk thru the resorts. With the exception of the exclusive resorts nearly all Railay Resorts offer basic cement or wood bungalows with private bath. A/C and hot water rooms are the exception not the rule. Railay East accomodations are much cheaper than Railay West rooms. But this are not backpacker/rock climbing cheap rooms. Average price for a basic bungalow is 1500-2500.

Yaya Resort - offers cheaper bungalows and rooms.
800-3800

Sunrise Tropical - a small step up from Yaya on the plus side is you are adjacent to the ritzy Rajavadee Resort and are nearest to Phranang Bay beach. (the best 'smalll' beach in the world). On the negative are the many boats arriving and going plus the main generator power plant is not to far away.

Anyavee Railay Resort
On East Railay Beach just north of the Yaya Resort. Has under gone major construction. Anyavee also is building a resort in Kloung Muang. Corporate ownership.

Diamond Cave Resort is at the far end of Ao Rai Leh east. with steps from near the beach leading up to well maintained gardens with a pool. Concrete bungalows several of them nestled into the jungle. High season rates 2000-3800 baht.

Diamond Private Resort Located on the far northern end of the east raileh beach.

Railay Cabana
Inland near Diamond Cave Resort. A good ten-minute walk to get there from east raileh beach.

Railay Princess is a new hotel located on the east side Rai Leh. High season rates start at 3000 baht Includes breakfast.

Railay Valley Bungalows ... high on the mountain back in the jungle.

Railay Hill Side Resort is at the end of the walking path after you have walked as far as you can away from the water and up the hill towards the mountains. Expect a good 10-15 minute uphill walk from the water and a view that will reward your effort. Basic bamboo bungalows rent for 400-800 baht in high season.

Big Spenders
Rayavadee Resort 5star
Rayavadee on Phra Nang Bay is the only resort on Phra Nang beach. Rayavadee Resort has a jaw-droppingly gorgeous view and prices to match - you'll be looking at upwards of 20,000 baht/night for a stay here. Alas, the would-be private beach is inundated daily with daytrippers from elsewhere in Krabi and hordes of vendors to cater to them plus a troop of naughty monkeys. If you want peace and quiet (during the day) you'd do best to look elsewhere like Tubkaak beach or upper Phi Phi.

Budget Bungalows on Railay
All Rai Leh beacg budget accommodations are found on the east side of Rai Leh. For the best variety of budget accommodation (bamboo bungalows) try neighbouring Ton Sai Beach - one minute long-tail ride / swim - where rooms can be had for a few 300-800 hundred baht/night.
